A change is coming… 06/3

This blog has been up almost a year now and it has been mainly to showcase new images and the such. I wont be doing anything radical to change the appearance of the blog or anything like that but more so making this blog more informative to the reader.

For starters, each month there will be an “Print of the Month” which will be available at a discounted rate. but along with the print of the month, I will be giving you an insight into some of the companies, products and services I use and recommend as well as the odd photo tip along the way. In the mean time this is an image taken from a different angle of the famous Q1 building in Surfers Paradise hope you like.

The change… you will have to wait and see but all I can say its a big one!!!

Happy Valley – Fraser Island 09/12

Earlier this year I spent a week on Fraser Island photographing. I like to base myself about half way up the island on the eastern side to take full advantage of what the place has to offer. Fraser Island has a lot of sand, I mean a lot of sand and well it should, it’s the world’s largest sand island. With there being so much sand, there is a fair amount of plain beach especially along 75 mile beach however I did manage to find a little outcrop of coffee rock just near Happy Valley.

When photographing with the Fuji G617 using 120 velvia 50 you only get 4 shots per roll unlike using digital where you can snap away without a worry in the world, the Fuji really makes you slow down and think about what you are doing when out photographing. After setting up and composing the shot I was after I realised that the shot I had composed was only going to work on a freak set so with the incoming tide I waited and waited and finally it came in enough for another wave to wash up and over the rock. I used a one second exposure to give the shot a sense of movement, I think it worked pretty well but ill let you be the judge of that one. You can view the image larger by clicking on the photo.

Lake Tekapo – South Island New Zealand 08/11

South Island NZ image - Lake Tekapo

Hey Everyone

Last week I got back 50 rolls of film I sent off to the lab to get processed this was one of photos from my box of slides.

On this trip we spent 10 days on the South Island of New Zealand, heading back to the airport we stopped in at a little town called Tekapo for the night before making our way to Christchurch for our flight home the next day. When we arrived it was quite windy and with hardly a cloud in the sky I wasn’t too impressed as I wanted something a little different in my collection and well snow capped mountains with no reflections in the lake wasn’t what I was looking for. Having given up on that idea set up anyway and began to wait for the sun to drop and give the mountains a bit of a glow but as the sun was beginning to set almost like someone turned off a switch the wind just stopped dead. With a very limited supply of film I was mainly focused on digital but knew that Velvia would give this shot that little pop that you can’t get with digital so as the mountains started glowing I fired off 2 shots and changed back to digital. The shot looks way better bigger so click the image to see a bigger version.

I have been scanning like crazy over the past couple days both new shots and old. These photos will be released on my site later this week and if you want you can click here to be taken straight to my new releases section of the website.

Cheers for stopping by

The good stuff… 21/4

Not too long ago I headed south to the New South Wales mid north coast and if you have been watching my blog you may have seen an older post from Crescent Head which was a digital shot taken at sunrise. Well this is a shot taken on the good stuff (velvia 50) taken at sunset on the same day a little North at Skennars Head.

For all you digital shooters out there imagine this… quick dodge and burn of the rocks and a very minor levels adjustment and your done, if only it was that easy with a digital.

Fuji G617 – Velvia 50 which I rate at 40asa.
